About Us
Incorporated in February of 1974, Witco was originally known as the Western Idaho Training Company, Inc. As appropriate for mission driven, not for profit organization, the company was created to meet needs identified by its core constituency, people with disabilities. Witco was the first comprehensive community rehabilitation program in the Treasure Valley. The term comprehensive in this context refers to both the broad spectrum of disability groups served as well as the vast array of services offered.
During the company's early years it played a major advocacy role in both the passage of federal law giving children with disabilities legal access to public education and the passage of the American with Disabilities Act granting legal rights to all people with disabilities. Witco continues to be recognized as a powerful vocal advocate representing citizens with disabilities on a local, state and federal level.
In 1990, Witco's services area expanded to include Eastern Oregon. Today Witco covers a ten county area in Idaho and Oregon and serves up to 800 adults and children each year. Program sites are located in Caldwell, Boise, Nampa, Fruitland, Mountain Home and Ontario. Outreach and home and community based services are provided in surrounding towns and communities.
From a small start with one paid employee, a volunteer and a student intern, Witco has grown to be a vibrant organization with approximately 100 employees and an annual budget of over $4 million. Witco has the honor of having received the gold standard CARF accreditation for over 30 years. It is the only fully CARF accredited comprehensive community rehabilitation program in the Treasure Valley.
The dream continues and the voices of those we serve continue to drive the organization. Witco will always be a dynamic, mission driven, not for profit organization ready to meet the changing needs of the people and communities we serve.
